Privacy policy
This explains what we collect when you use Within The Matrix (the website at withinthematrix.com and the community app), why we collect it, and what you can do about it. Short version: we collect what we need to run the community, we don't sell it, and you can ask us to delete it.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash).
- Profile details you choose to add: handle, bio, profile picture and cover image.
- What you post: posts, comments, likes, project pages, cohort applications and direct messages.
- Activity needed to run features: classes you add to your calendar, who you follow, cohorts and projects you're part of, and notifications.
- Basic technical data: your IP address and browser type, recorded with your sign-in session for security.
Why we use it
- To create your account, sign you in and keep it secure.
- To show your profile and content to other members, and to the public where you've chosen to make something public (like a project).
- To send emails you'd expect: a welcome email, password resets and notifications about activity you're part of.
- To keep the community safe, including reviewing reports and suspending accounts that break the rules.
What's public and what isn't
Your posts, comments, profile and projects are visible to other signed-in members. Only things explicitly marked public, like a public project or a public class, appear on the open website. Direct messages are visible only to the people in the conversation, and to admins if a message is reported.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data or use it for advertising. We use a few service providers to run the platform, and they only process data on our behalf:
- Hosting and databases (Vercel and Railway).
- Email delivery (Resend).
- Image storage (Cloudflare).
- Live classes run on Zoom. Joining a class means Zoom's own privacy policy applies to that session.
We'll also share information if the law requires it.
Cookies
We use a single cookie to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account exists. If you delete your account or ask us to, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we have to keep something for legal or security reasons.
Your choices
You can edit your profile at any time from the app. To get a copy of your data, correct something, or delete your account, email hello@withinthematrix.com and we'll take care of it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll let members know in the app or by email before it takes effect.
